I am happy to give advice and receive referrals for patients particularly those who live in the Norfolk and Suffolk area who wish to be seen privately. I have an established reputation in Oculoplastics, Lacrimal and Reconstructive eye lid surgery and also in Cataract surgery. Since training at Moorfields eye hospital in the 1990s I have regularly performed small incision phacoemulsification cataract surgery under topical anaesthesia with excellent audited visual outcomes. I offer a range of premium lenses which are not generally available in the NHS and I am happy to discuss your requirements which may include a reduction in spectacle dependence following cataract surgery. Patients wishing to have a virtual consultation for assessment of an eye lid problem rather than a face to face consultation should contact my secretary by phone 01603 814 365 or email in order to make a virtual appointment for a video call. This can be particularly convenient for those that find travel difficult for example those living in a nursing home who may have mobility issues.

Fees

Choosing a surgeon and a clinic is a difficult decision, therefore it’s important that you are comfortable with the costs. Also that you choose a surgeon that has the correct expertise and experience for your procedure.

Consultation Fee

The fee for an initial consultation is £210 and the fee for any follow-up consultation is £135.

Following your consultation you may need certain tests (such as blood tests or imaging, an X-ray, MRI or CT scan) to help diagnose your condition. If the tests are undertaken by the clinic or hospital, and not by myself, the fees for those tests will be determined by the clinic or hospital and charged to you, or your private medical insurer, separately.

If surgical procedures are required, then we will provide you with an estimate of our fees. These fees may not be covered in full by your insurer so it is important to check.

Fees are payable after your appointment and can be paid by direct bank Transfer.

Private Medical Insurance

If you have private medical insurance, please contact your insurer before your consultation, to check the terms of your policy, particularly the level and type of outpatient cover you have, including any reimbursement limits on individual consultation fees. I am recognised by all major insurance companies, however not all insurers cover my full fee. Please check with your insurance company before your appointment.

Please note that cosmetic surgery such as blepharoplasty for cosmetic rather than functional reasons is not covered by insurance companies.

Virtual Appointments (Video calls)

During the COVID Pandemic I was pleased to be able to offer virtual appointments to those people that were shielding or unable to attend the clinic in person. Video consultations can work extremely well for Oculoplastic consultations where patients have the appropriate equipment, IT connection and know how. This enables assessment of patients via a computer, tablet or smart phone video-call to examine their eye lids and discuss and plan treatment options without the patient needing to leave their own home. Many elderly patients who may not have the technology often have a younger relative who can help out.

This platform enables treatment of patients with

  • Eyelid malpositions such as entropions, ectropions, ptosis,

  • eye lid lumps including suspected eye lid skin cancers

with only one subsequent visit to the eye department for the curative operation itself when dissolvable sutures are used so patients can have their follow up appointments via video call from their home with a full update on any histopathology results if a biopsy was taken.

There are many advantages, including:-

  • Ability to assess elderly, vulnerable, particularly those in a nursing home where travel to an eye clinic or hospital can be impractical.

  • Excellent patient feedback and satisfaction
